Getting Started

How do I download Otto?

Search "Otto" in the App Store on your iPhone, or visit our App Store listing. Tap "Get" to install. Requires iOS 17.0 or later.

Do I need an account?

No. Download and start asking questions immediately. Your conversations are stored on your device. No email, no password, no signup.

How do I ask my first question?

Open Otto, pick your car, and type your question in plain English. "What oil does my car need?" or "Why is my engine light on?" Otto understands natural language, no special formatting needed.

Using Otto

What kind of questions can I ask?

Anything about your car: maintenance schedules, warning lights, fluid specs, repair costs, OBD-II codes, how-to guides. If it's in the manual, Otto knows it. Type naturally, like you're texting a mechanic friend.

Can I ask follow-up questions?

Yes. Otto remembers the context of your conversation. Ask "What oil do I need?" then follow up with "How often should I change it?" and Otto keeps up.

How do I save important answers?

Long-press any message to bookmark it. You can also copy text to your clipboard or share entire conversations.

Can I search past conversations?

Yes. Go to the History tab and use the search bar. Search by keyword, date, or topic. Everything is saved locally on your device.

Supported Cars

Which brands does Otto support?

15+ brands and growing: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, and more. Each one is backed by official manufacturer documentation for that specific vehicle.

Will you add more models?

We add new vehicles regularly. If your car isn't listed yet, email us and we'll prioritize it. New models are announced in the app and on this site.

Pricing

Is Otto really free?

Yes. 10 questions per day, every feature included, no trial, no credit card. The free tier isn't going anywhere.

What are the paid options?

Optional upgrades for people who want more capacity:

  • Personal ($4.99/month or $39.99/year): 20 questions per day
  • Garage ($14.99/month or $119.99/year): 100 questions per day, built for mechanics and workshops

Every feature is included in the free tier. Paid tiers only increase the daily question limit.

Why daily limits?

AI costs about $0.03 per answer. Limits keep the service sustainable and the free tier free for everyone. Most users need 3-5 questions per session, so 10/day covers typical use.

How do I upgrade?

Go to Settings in the app and tap "Upgrade." Managed through your Apple ID. Cancel anytime and keep access through the end of your billing period.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes or won't open

  1. Force quit Otto (swipe up from bottom, swipe up on Otto)
  2. Restart your iPhone
  3. Check for app updates in the App Store
  4. Make sure you have iOS 17.0 or later
  5. Still broken? Email support@mimmiu.ca with your iPhone model and iOS version

I'm not getting answers

  • Check your internet connection (WiFi or cellular)
  • If you've hit your daily limit, it resets at midnight
  • Try again in a few minutes. Occasionally the AI service has brief downtime

"No internet connection" error

  • Check WiFi or cellular data is on
  • Try loading a webpage in Safari to confirm
  • Go to iPhone Settings > Otto and make sure cellular data is enabled
  • Restart the app

Answers are slow

Some questions take 10-15 seconds, especially complex diagnostics. If answers consistently take longer, check your connection speed. If the problem continues, email us.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@mimmiu.ca with what happened, what you expected, your iPhone model, and iOS version. Screenshots help.

Your Data

Where are my conversations stored?

On your iPhone, encrypted by iOS. We don't have access to them. Conversations leave your device only when sent to the AI to generate an answer.

Can you see what I ask?

No. Questions are processed by the AI and not stored or logged by us. We collect anonymous analytics (feature usage, crash reports) but never conversation content.

How do I delete everything?

Settings > Clear All Data. This permanently removes all conversations, bookmarks, and history from your device. Can't be undone. Or just delete the app.

Can I export my conversations?

Yes. Open any conversation, tap the share icon, and export as text or PDF. Save it, print it, or send it to your mechanic.

About Otto's Answers

How accurate are the answers?

Otto pulls from official manufacturer documentation and cites its sources. But it's an informational tool, not a diagnostic tool. AI can occasionally misinterpret a question. For safety-critical work (brakes, steering, airbags), always verify with a qualified mechanic.

Should I share answers with my mechanic?

Absolutely. Many users export conversations before service appointments. It helps explain symptoms, saves time, and shows you've done your homework. Use the PDF export for a clean printout.

What if an answer seems wrong?

Email support@mimmiu.ca with the question, the answer you got, and why you think it's off. We review every report and improve the knowledge base.
