What We Collect
Information you provide
Almost nothing. Otto doesn't require an account to use. The only information you provide is the questions you ask, which are:
- Sent to Dana AI to generate answers
- Not stored or logged by us
- Discarded after your answer is generated
If you create an optional account, we store your email address and authentication tokens to enable syncing across devices.
Automatically collected
We collect minimal anonymous data to improve the app:
- Device info: Device type (e.g., "iPhone 16 Pro"), iOS version
- App usage: Which features you use, session length
- Crash reports: Anonymous crash logs to help us fix bugs
All of this is anonymous. We cannot identify you as an individual.
What we don't collect
We do NOT collect:
- Your name or phone number
- Your location or GPS coordinates
- Your conversation content or history
- Your vehicle's VIN or registration
- Your photos, contacts, or calendar
- Any personally identifiable information (unless you create an account)
How We Use Data
Analytics
Anonymous analytics help us:
- Understand which features people actually use
- Find and fix bugs
- Improve performance
- Decide what to build next
AI processing
Your questions are sent to Dana AI to generate answers. Dana AI:
- Receives your question text only
- Processes it against official vehicle documentation
- Returns an answer
- Does not retain your questions after responding
Payments
All purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your credit card, payment info, or Apple ID details. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status.

Purpose: Distribution and in-app purchases

Purpose: Privacy-focused anonymous analytics
Data shared: Device type, iOS version, anonymous usage events
Retention: 90 days, then deleted
Your Rights
Access
All your conversation data lives on your iPhone. You have full access anytime. We don't store data about you on our servers, so there's nothing else to request.
Deletion
Delete your data anytime:
- Settings > Clear All Data removes everything
- Delete individual conversations in the History tab
- Uninstall the app to remove all local data
We don't store your conversations, so there's nothing to delete on our end.
Portability
Export any conversation: open it, tap the share icon, and choose text or PDF export. Save it or send it wherever you want.
Opt-out
AI processing (Dana AI) is required for the app to work. Analytics are already anonymous and can't identify you. Uninstalling the app stops all data sharing.
Data Security
- Local storage: Conversations encrypted on your iPhone via iOS built-in encryption
- Network: All communication with Dana AI uses HTTPS
- Minimal surface: We don't store user data on servers, so there's nothing to breach
Children's Privacy
Otto is rated 4+ in the App Store. We don't knowingly collect information from children. No account required, all data collection is anonymous, and there are no social features. Parental guidance is recommended for vehicle repair information.

International Users
Otto is available worldwide. Your questions may be processed in data centers outside your country. We comply with GDPR for EU users and CCPA for California users.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and notify you in the app. Continued use means acceptance. You can always review the latest version here.
Legal Compliance
We may disclose information if required by law. Since we don't collect personal information or store conversations, there's very little we could disclose even if asked.
